Competition Rules

Print Competitions

When entering competitions prints must be properly mounted on antique white or black card or board for display.

The external mount size  for both internal and external competitions must be 500 mm by 400 mm (50 x 40 cm), irrespective of the size of the image being displayed.  This will help to prevent damage to prints during transport.

A digital image must accompany the print for club record purposes.

No print to be entered more than once in any internal competition during a season except for the Champions Monochrome or Champions Colour competitions.

Any entry submitted must have the member’s two digit competition number and the title of the print written clearly on the back of the print, top left, in light pencil (no labels).

The same or substantially similar images may not be entered for the same competition in two different presentations where the competition allows prints and digitally projected images.

All prints submitted are at the members own risk.  Neither Driffield Photographic Society nor the competition secretaries can be held responsible for the loss of any media submitted.

Digitally Projected Images (DPI) Competition Rules

Images must be submitted as JPEG files at maximum quality and should be in proper orientation for projecting.  They should also be in sRGB colour space.  Information on preparing your images for competitions can be found in the resource section

The size of DPI’s should be a maximum of 1400 x 1050 pixels.  The size also includes any borders around the image.

N.B.  1400 longest side in landscape format and 1050 longest side in portrait format.

Entries should be submitted with the competitor and image numbers in the filename as well as the title of the image and the competition being entered:
e.g. If competitor number is 23 and this is the first image then the file name should be 0123_Misty Morning_Milne 2.jpg. If it is the second image then it would be O223_Sun Set_Milne 2.jpg).

All DPI’s submitted for competition should have the photographer’s name and metadata removed before submission.   Instruction on how to do this in Lightroom can be found here Removing metadata resizing in Lightroom and for Photoshop can be found here Removing all metadata and copyright information

No DPI to be entered more than once in any internal competition during a season, except the four related DPI’s competition and the Champions Monochrome or Champions Colour competitions.

The same or substantially similar images may not be entered for the same competition in two different presentations where the competition allows prints and digitally projected images.

DPI Entries are to be submitted on a CD or on a USB flash drive, clearly marked with the photographer’s name and number.

No other images or software except those submitted for that competition should be on the media submitted.

Entries will also be accepted via e-mail attachment to the DPS competition secretaries e-mail addresses.

Full details as stated above must accompany the e-mailed images.

All DPI’s submitted are at the members own risk.  Neither Driffield Photographic Society nor the competition secretaries can be held responsible for the loss of any media submitted.

All DPI’s will be returned to the photographer after the competition has been judged.

All images submitted for internal competitions will be automatically eligible to be chosen for external competition.  A selection group of 3 committee members will choose the images to be submitted.

N.B   DPI’s and prints entered in any internal competition in any one year, cannot be re-entered in any internal competition in any other year, with the exception of external competitions.
